Zakat Fitrah Rates for Ramadan 1446H/2025 Announced by MUIS
Singapore, 28 February 2025 – The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) has announced the Zakat Fitrah rates for Ramadan 1446H/2025, setting the normal rate at S$5.00 and the higher rate at S$7.90 per person.
Understanding Zakat Fitrah
Zakat Fitrah is a compulsory contribution for all Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan. This annual obligation is determined based on the staple food of the country, which in Singapore is rice. The MUIS Fitrah Committee sets the rates based on the median price of 2.3kg of rice, considering both normal and premium grades commonly consumed by the local Muslim community.
Since 2005, MUIS has adopted a two-tier Zakat Fitrah system, allowing Muslims to contribute at either the normal rate or a higher rate, depending on their consumption habits. Those who regularly consume premium rice are encouraged to contribute at the higher rate, reflecting their standard of living while also providing additional support to those in need.
2025 Rate Determination and Market Adjustments
The committee conducted an extensive review of rice prices between November 2024 and January 2025 to determine this year’s Zakat Fitrah rates. While the price of normal-grade rice remained stable, the price of higher-grade rice saw an increase of more than 3%, prompting an adjustment to the higher rate. This ensures fairness and allows contributors to align their Zakat obligations with real market conditions.
Fulfilling Zakat Fitrah on Time
MUIS reminds all Muslims in Singapore that Zakat Fitrah must be paid during Ramadan and before the Hari Raya Aidilfitri prayers. To avoid last-minute congestion at physical collection counters and online platforms, Muslims are encouraged to fulfil their obligations early.
Official Payment Channels
To ensure secure transactions and proper distribution of funds, MUIS advises contributors to use only official and authorised payment channels. These include:
- The Zakat Singapore website: www.zakat.sg
- A network of Amil (authorised collectors) and designated collection centres
- The Zakat Singapore location directory: www.zakat.sg/locations
By using these verified platforms, contributors can be assured that their Zakat is distributed appropriately across the eight asnaf (eligible recipient) categories, which include the poor, needy, and other deserving groups in the community.
A Community Effort in Fulfilling Religious Duties
Zakat Fitrah is more than just a religious obligation—it is a means of fostering unity, generosity, and care within the Muslim community. By contributing promptly and through the right channels, Muslims in Singapore can ensure their Zakat reaches those who need it most, helping to create a more equitable society.
