SINGAPORE - A 65-year-old cyclist died after he was involved in an accident with a truck in Tuas on Feb 24.

Several police vehicles, a blue police tent and a wrecked bicycle were spotted at the scene of the accident, according to a video uploaded to Facebook page Singapore roads accident.com.

The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the accident, which took place at the junction of Tuas Avenue 1 and Tuas Avenue 8, around 11am on Feb 24

The cyclist, a 65-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

The 43-year-old truck driver has been arrested for “driving without due care and attention causing death”, said police, adding that investigations are ongoing.

The number of people killed and injured in traffic accidents hit a five-year high in 2024, according to figures released by the Traffic Police (TP) earlier in February.

TP figures showed 142 people died in accidents in 2024, up from 136 deaths the previous year. The number of people injured in accidents was also up, from 8,941 in 2023 to 9,302 in 2024.
